Things to Consider before Buying a Convertible Stroller

Before we jump into action, let’s talk about why you should consider buying this stroller. Is a convertible stroller even right for you?

Well, if you’re a mommy looking for flexibility with the seating arrangement of your stroller, then a convertible stroller is what you need. If you want to be able to choose the carrier type to place on the chassis such as car seat, bassinet, main seat forward, parent facing seat, a second seat, or all of the previous, then you’ll love convertible strollers.

Most convertible strollers come with a car seat adapter or bassinet accessory. Some brands feature a seat that converts into a bassinet so you won’t need another purchase, which will save you money.

When your baby has outgrown the car seat or bassinet, you can use the toddler seat that’s included with the stroller. Most stroller seats are designed so the whole seat reclines as opposed to the seatback only.

A few convertible seat strollers, like the one I’m reviewing today, can convert from a single to a double stroller. This is an awesome feature because it saves you money since you don’t have to buy a second stroller when baby #2 comes along.

Nuna Demi Grow Stroller Overview

Classy, well-designed, and modern-looking, the Nuna Demi Grow Stroller stroller comes with a chic European style and a chassis that converts to a cozy double stroller when you a second seat (sold separately).

Since it’s suitable for twins or siblings, the Nuna Demi Grow is a great option for growing families. The canopy is impressively big and comfy, and it includes a pull-out drape and a sun visor.

The recline process on this convertible stroller is one-handed and it goes fully flat, so it’s suitable for newborns as well. The leg rest and handlebar are both adjustable to accommodate your and your babies’ size requirements.

The Nuna Demi Grow also has a swing-away bumper bar and generous storage capabilities thanks to its huge basket. The wheels are foam-filled with an all-wheel suspension that ensures a smooth ride.

Compared to the UPPAbaby Vista and Baby Jogger City Select Lux, the Demi Grow has the second seat positioned below and behind (instead of below and in front of) the primary seat.

Compared to the Nuna Mixx2, the Demi Grow features a bucket seat recline (vs a nearly flat recline), an easier folding mechanism, and supports a second seat.

Nuna Demi Grow Features & Benefits

Double Mode

You can convert the Nuna Demi Grow from a single to a double stroller by adding a second seat to the frame’s back. This is easy to do and pretty useful since the stroller actually grows with your family.

The second seat has the same features and the footprint remains unchanged even with it attached. This makes the Nuna Demi Grow quite maneuverable even in crowded places.

To make the conversion though, you need to give up the basket and some of your leg space. That may be an issue for parents who are taller than average.

Seating Options

The Nuna Demi Grow offers an outstanding number of 23 seat configurations. You get to use any combination of two bassinets, two kid seats, and two baby car seats (Nuna PIPA adapter included), so there probably isn’t a situation that the Nuna Demi Grow can’t handle.

Huge Canopy

The canopy on the Demi Grow is expandable and UPF50+ with 2 big panels and a sun visor that you can pop out. There’s a DreamDrape (which is an extra sun visor), so your baby will be completely protected against the sun.

The viewing window features dark mesh to allow for air circulation during hot weather yet still keep your kid safe from the sun.

Adjustable Handlebar

You can set the handlebar in one of three positions from 38’’ to 42’’ high. The feel of the handlebar is really nice since it’s covered with hand-sewn leather instead of the conventional rubber material.

You’ll need both hands to adjust the handlebar, but this shouldn’t be a big deal since you won’t be changing its height every day.

Reversible Seat

The dimensions of the seat are 12’’ width, 20’’ seat back, and 22’’ from the seat’s back to the canopy’s top. Using one hand, you can reverse the seat into one of three positions.

The Nuna Demi Grow offers a “true flat recline” so it’s suitable for newborns from day one. The recline positions are the same where your kid is facing you or the world.

Keep in mind that the seat is v-shaped, so your little one won’t lay completely flat even if the seat is fully reclined.

Reversing the seat is super easy and quick. You simply press the buttons found on the sides, swing the seat around, and pop it back in. The seat is designed to accommodate children up to 50 pounds heavy.

Removable Seat Liner

The removable seat liner is a fantastic feature that you won’t find in the UPPAbaby Vista. When you unzip it, you expose a mesh seat that delivers great ventilation so your baby won’t overheat on hot summer days.

If you live somewhere with a generally warm climate or you like to travel to such places, this feature will come in especially handy.

All-terrain Wheels

The wheels on the Nuna Demi Grow are made of hard rubber filled with foam. The front set is 7’’ and the rear set is 10’’.

Thanks to this construction, you don’t have to worry about getting a flat tire when outside, while still enjoying all the benefits of air-filled tires. Plus, you don’t need to carry an air pump with you for emergencies.

The front swivel wheels can be locked straight, providing you with extra stability when needed. The Nuna Demi Grow can easily handle just about any type of terrain including gravel, grass, and uneven sidewalks.

Many other all-terrain strollers roll with air-filled wheels, but the Demi Grow has a bit of edge with its foam-filled wheels. It’s very easy to maneuver using only one hand.

These all-terrain wheels come with wheel fenders. When you convert the Nuna Demi Grow into a double stroller, the second seat has to be at the stroller’s back, which makes the rear wheels well in reach of your little one.

This could get them dirty or even hurt. The included wheel fenders can protect your toddler and keeping them clean.

I also much appreciate the all-wheel suspension feature with the possibility of adjusting the suspension of the rear wheels. This just works great when it comes to absorbing bumps for a smooth ride.

Nuna Demi Grow Stroller

Simple, innovative design is what sets Nuna apart from other brands – and the Nuna DEMI™ Grow Stroller is no exception! Alternatives & Conclusion

The Nuna Demi Grow convertible stroller is one of the best units you can bag in the convertible strollers department.

The main strong points of this premium stroller start with the fact that it comes with 23 seating configurations to cater to the needs of any growing family. The canopy is large to provide comfort and protection, with a removable seat liner to deliver extra airflow when needed.

Moreover, the leg rest is adjustable and the same goes for the handlebar. The stroller will stand when folded and it features a handy swing-away bumper bar.

The Demi Grow also offers impressive storage capabilities with its large basket so you can take whatever you need for a ride outdoors. The wheels are foam-filled and feature all-wheel suspension to provides a stable and smooth ride.

That being said, it’s no secret that the Nuna Demi Grow is on the pricey side. Not all parents can afford that, so if you’re looking for a more affordable convertible stroller, I recommend the Britax B-Ready G2 stroller. As a single, the B-Ready can up to 55 pounds while the second seat on the doubles kit has a 35-pound weight limit.

If you’re a sporty mom looking for something that allows your baby to join you on your morning jogs, consider the Baby Trend Expedition Jogger Travel System. Not only does this stroller come in a 3-wheel design made specifically for jogging and brisk walks with all-terrain bicycle tires, but it also includes a car seat so you can use the same stroller for your little baby up until they become a 50-pound toddler.
