Things to Consider Before Buying a Luxury Pushchair

A pushchair is basically a durable mode of transportation for your baby. What makes these rides a family-favorite is that they have more luxury features than the standard stroller.

Some pushchairs are all-terrain, like the Cybex Balios M stroller. These are designed to ride over all types of terrains — from the flat to the bumpy and uneven. The wheels on pushchairs are equipped with a sturdy suspension system for a smooth, effortless ride.

One example is how the seat reverses 360 degrees while also fully reclining. Even better, the entire unit can fold flat to take up as little space as possible. Some are even self-standing.  This means less backache because you don’t need to bend to pick it up.

One of the things I like is how versatile pushchairs are. They can accommodate your baby from birth to toddler age with an average maximum weight of 55 lbs. One way the single-stroller Balios M does this is by turning it into a fashionable pram. Simply take out the seat and replace it with a carrycot.

Aside from the carrycot, you have the option of installing an infant car seat. These additions make for an easy transformation from a stroller to a practical travel system.

However, the downside to the Balios M stroller is that it only accommodates Cybex gear, which is a bit limiting and may put an extra strain on your budget.

Cybex Balios M Overview

Cybex is famous for its reliable and functional products, and the Balios M stroller is no exception. It has a stylish chassis and a seamless design. The blend of black and white tires makes it stand out from other strollers on the market. All in all, it’s a highly sought-out stroller by many parents.

Cybex launched the Balios S in the spring of 2018 to follow on the success of the Balios M. The new addition fits in with Cybex’s belief in customizing a stroller for all your baby’s needs, all while maintaining a sense of luxury and style.

Features & Benefits

With the Cybex Balios M stroller, you know your baby is in good hands. The design is practical, stylish, and user-friendly, and it comes in five different colors — moon dust, grape juice, autumn gold, hot and spicy, and true blue — so you can pick a hue that best suits you.

Let’s take a look at some of the top features of this attractive stroller.

Seat

The seat measures 12.5 inches wide and has a 20-inch back. There’s an area of about 22 inches from the back of the seat to the canopy top, which provides your baby with ample headroom, and the adjustable leg rest gives your baby an added level of comfort.

One of the features I love on the Balios M is the seat’s one-handed lever inclination. It can go from an upright position to an almost flat position when fully reclined and has a deep enough inclination to put your newborn in. Although, it’s recommended that you install an infant insert first to fully support his or her delicate spine and neck.

The fabric is made of padded and washable materials. It’s easy to maintain, as well as being safe on your little one’s skin.

As we mentioned earlier, you can turn the Balios M into a pram by replacing the seat with the Cybex carrycot. Similarly, the stroller can be transformed into a travel system. All you have to do is take out the seat and replace it with an infant car seat — it’s as easy as that!

The Cybex Balios M stroller only works with Cybex car seats, including:

5-Point Harness

You know you’ve got a reliable stroller when it has a 5-point safety harness. And the Cybex Balios M manages to give you that level of safety with style.

The shoulder straps are padded to provide cushioned support. To make buckling and unbuckling easier, all the straps are conveniently connected. There’s also a white Cybex logo on the release buckle, which adds a nice touch.

Wheels

Cybex equipped this stroller with 8-inch front wheels, 11.5-inch rear wheels, and all-wheel mechanical suspension, which means your baby won’t feel any bumps or jolts when riding along.

The best part is that the wheels roll just as smoothly in the mall as on off-road terrain. This is largely due to their high-quality rubber exterior and foam-filled interior.

For optimal stability, you’ll find one foot-friendly brake pedal. It’s located on the right-hand side of the rear axle. It does a terrific job of securing all four wheels in place.

There’s a swivel lock feature on all wheels that helps make maneuvering the stroller a bit easier. When the wheels move in a straight fashion, this gives the Cybex stroller better stability. Also, it helps prevent the stroller from swerving, especially on uneven or bumpy terrain.

Canopy

The XXL UVP50+ sun canopy on the Cybex Balios M stroller is huge! It’s made up of three large panels that reach down to the bumper bar. Your little one will get plenty of protection from the sun during all times of the day when he’s sitting comfortably in this umbrella stroller.

The panel closest to the handlebar is mesh, which works great as a peek-a-boo window. It’s wide and covers the entire panel area.

The only problem with the Cybex Balios M’s canopy is that the mesh area doesn’t come with a cover, which became an issue when the weather was windy or rainy.

Handlebar

It’s easy to grip the comfortable EVA foam handlebar on the Cybex Balios M stroller. It’s adjustable, so it works perfectly for parents of all heights, with a height that ranges from 37 up to 42 inches off the ground.

Not only that, but the telescoping handlebar slides in and out for added convenience. This can come in handy when you’ve turned the reversible seat and your baby is facing you. Having that option gives you a better view of the road ahead while still being able to talk and play with your little one.

Storage

As a parent, I try to look for strollers that are lightweight, functional, with lots of storage. The all-terrain Balios M checks all those boxes! It’s only 23 pounds, with a pretty big storage basket and lots of neat options to make your life easier.

You’ll be happy with the large storage basket underneath the seat. It can carry up to all your gear with no problem. An important advantage is that you can easily access it from all sides, thanks to its wide opening. Just remember to keep small items in the middle of the basket to avoid them falling out as you’re moving along.

The downside is there are no extra pouches or trays. The Balios M also lacks small pockets on the inside of the stroller that could come in handy for storing snacks and toys for your child.

Folding

The one-hand fold of this Cybex stroller is pretty straightforward. Yet, it’s more complicated than other types of strollers on the market. Other than that, once folded, it has a self-standing function. Plus, the auto-lock makes sure everything stays in place.

Alternative Picks

Among the many great characteristics of the Cybex Balios M, the feature that stands out the most is its ease of use. It’s a dependable stroller that can accommodate your child from his very first days to his toddler years.

While you can appreciate the all-wheel suspension and telescoping handlebar, you may find after reading this review that the Balios M may not be what you’re looking for. Keep reading for a couple of great alternatives that may be just what you’re looking for.

Babyzen YOYO

You could be looking for a travel system stroller that takes up less space when folded. This is a handy feature, especially if you frequently travel with your little one.

For a lightweight, compact travel stroller, take a look at Babyzen YOYO. It’s equipped with ‘soft drive’ suspension that evens out rough terrain. Plus, you get lots of storage, a 5-point safety harness, and a wide canopy that offers full coverage.

Graco Literider LX

Likewise, some strollers come with an attachable parent tray — one feature lacking on the Balios M. If that sounds like something you want in a stroller, then the Graco Literider LX could be for you.

It’s lightweight, easy to maneuver, and comfortable. More importantly, it comes with an organizer tray for parents. It has two cup holders, as well as a generous space to hold your phone, keys, or wallet.

Conclusion

The Cybex Balios M is part of the Cybex Silver stroller series. As you read early on in this review, this is a stroller that’s known for its stylish design and versatility, and the all-wheel suspension ensures your child stays comfortable as he enjoys the ride.

Then there are the other features that make it easier on you as a parent. From the reversible seating to the wide canopy to the large storage basket, the Cybex Balios M stroller makes it easy to enjoy a hassle-free outing with your family.

As you’ve seen, there’s no one perfect stroller out there; it simply hasn’t been made yet. So, until it comes along, we’ll try to come as close to perfection as we can by finding the stroller that best suits our needs while keeping the baby safe and secure.
