Things to Consider Before Buying a Stokke Xplory

We were attracted to the Stokke Xplory because of its various clever features and trendy look. With this stroller, you get a padded baby insert for newborns, a seat pocket, a rain cover, a removable shopping basket, and a mosquito net.

That sounds wonderful, we know, but before you make a final decision, here are some things to keep in mind while out shopping for a stroller.

Effortless Steering

The whole point of having a stroller is being able to take your baby anywhere you want to go in the easiest way possible. This is why the wheels are so important.

Do the wheels swivel? Can they be locked? Do they have suspension?

Parents who are always on the move prefer strollers with all-terrain wheels because they can move effortlessly on almost any surface. Unfortunately, these tend to be on the heavier side. That’s something to think about when weighing your options.

Versatility

Some strollers offer the option of installing a bassinet, then a car seat, which can finally transform into a chair. Others have reversible seating or adjustable footrests. The more options, the better, in our opinion.

Cleaning and Maintenance

You don’t want to waste any of your precious quality time with your child cleaning a stroller, so we recommend searching for one that can be cleaned quickly and easily. Find one that can be wiped down with a cleansing wipe or a damp cloth. You should also make sure you get a stroller with removable seat padding that can be tossed into the washing machine.

Stokke Xplory Overview

The designers of the Xplory made it their mission to improve the way you connect and engage with your child. Since it’s narrower than other strollers, the Xplory has no problems navigating through crowds or making its way through the tables at any restaurant. This modern-day pram is an urban parent’s dream-come-true.

The Xplory has come a long way from its humble beginnings in 2003, and with each new model comes a few nice upgrades. The most recent edition is the v6 model, and its improvements include premium moisture-wicking fabric and additional ventilation. Currently, Stokke’s v7 model is in the works, and it promises a more refined look, more color choices, and easier folding.

Features & Benefits

The designers at Stokke created shockwaves when their first stroller hit the market in 2003. Since then, the company has been coming up with distinctive baby gear that fits all budgets and needs. What terrific features stand out on the Xplory 6? Keep reading to find out!

Seat

The seat on the Stokke Xplory is truly an innovation in itself. With five different seating positions, you can rest assured that your child is comfortable at all times.

The stroller’s maximum weight limit is 45 pounds with a seat height of about 20 inches. That’s pretty roomy — roomy enough for even a four-year-old!

The padded seat is made from polyester fabric, and the best thing about it is that it can be easily removed and washed in the machine.

The upright position gives your child full access to his surroundings, but if he or she wants to relax or take a nap, you can recline the seat to two positions: rest and sleep. However, this is only possible when the stroller is in the parent-facing position.

Not only does the seat rotate, but its height also adjusts. Raise the seat up to bring your child closer so you can play or chat as you’re walking. It can also be used as a diaper changing table. Just lean the seat back, and you’re at the perfect height to change your teeny tot’s diaper as he or she remains in the comfort of his seat.

Another impressive feature is the seat’s curved base that fully supports your child’s spine. There’s even air ventilation in this area to boost airflow and prevent moisture buildup.

Safety Harness

The Stokke Xplory has a 5-point safety harness, which is found on most strollers nowadays. The buckles are pretty straightforward, but they’re also quite stiff, so your child will find it a bit difficult to engage.

The straps on the shoulder and crotch are padded for added comfort, but a drawback is that you’ll need to unzip the back of the seat entirely to match the straps to your child’s size and height. And unfortunately, the crotch strap isn’t adjustable.

Handlebar

Tall parents usually have a tough time finding a stroller that’s comfortable for them to use. Fortunately, they won’t have this problem with the Xplory. The ergonomic design of the handlebar makes it easy to maneuver the stroller with one hand.

Moreover, the handlebar is easily adjustable to suit the height of almost all parents; you can move it up and down to a range of 26 to 41 inches off the ground. It’s also telescopic and can be pulled to almost 12 inches outward.

Sun Canopy

The sunshade is wide enough to provide ample protection against the harsh sun, and there’s also a folding visor that can be easily attached and removed with a zipper. And when the sun’s angle is low, you can unzip the back of the canopy and rotate it forward to block out bright rays.

You’ll be happy to know there’s a peek-a-boo window in the canopy, too, providing you with easy access to your little one. Plus, it boosts airflow inside the stroller during those hot summer days.

Wheels

It’s impressive how stable this stroller can be, especially considering how tall it is compared with other strollers. There are four wheels on the Stokke Xplory. The two front wheels are seven inches in diameter, and you can fix them in place or allow them to swivel, depending on the type of terrain.

All four wheels are made from puncture-free rubber and can handle most city terrains, both indoors and out. Their smooth movements allow for one-handed steering.

Because we care about the safety of your little one almost as much as you do, we must note that the Xplory’s brakes are quite reliable.

There’s only one brake pedal on one of the rear 9-inch wheels. To engage the single foot brake, push down on the pedal with your foot. The one problem we noticed is that disengaging the brakes can sometimes be a bit stiff, and when this happens, you’ll have to bend down and press down on the brake pedal to disengage it.

One of our favorite features of this stroller is that the front wheels are capable of folding in. This design feature makes it easier to maneuver curbs and stairs. This also comes in handy at the beach, at the park, or on gravel. Just fold them and pull them behind you.

Another smart design on the Xplory is that there’s no rear axle to get in your way when you walk. There’s an open space between the wheels, and the absence of a crossbar makes it easier for you to walk naturally as you push your child along.

Storage

The Xplory comes with a storage bag that attaches to the base of the stroller with a clip that keeps it in place. The bag is a pretty decent size — big enough to hold almost everything you need. It can also double as a diaper bag, which can really come in handy when you’re in a pinch.

There are four inner pockets on the stroller itself, and these are sturdy enough to carry things like bottles, snacks, and even a couple of toys.

For even more storage options, you’ll find two rings under the seat. You can use them to hang other bags or pouches.

Alternatives & Conclusion

The Stokke Xplory stroller has plenty of ingenious features. It’s the type of stroller that parents living in the city will find appealing because it’s a breeze to steer over flat surfaces, like stores and sidewalks.

You should know now, after reading our review on the Stokke Xplory, how functional and stylish this stroller can also be. The way the seat is designed could very well make it the only stroller you’ll ever need. Add to that the wide sun canopy and puncture-free wheels, and you have one unique piece of baby gear.

However, it can be a bit pricey, and we know an expensive stroller may not comfortably fit into everyone’s budget. So, if you’re looking for something a bit more affordable, try the Evenflo Pivot Xpand Travel System.

The Pivot Xpand is an expandable stroller that can be arranged in 22 different setups. At the same time, it’s one of the most budget-friendly strollers on the market. It manages to deliver the versatility and high-quality performance of more expensive models without breaking the bank.

If having more powerful wheels is something that sounds appealing to you, check out the Bugaboo Fox. This all-terrain stroller is capable of tackling all types of surfaces, so if you’re a frequent traveler, the Bugaboo might be for you.

It has a suspension system on the wheels, as well as an additional suspension system in the middle of the stroller frame. It also has a reversible seat, a wide canopy, and effortless folding.

Weigh your options and see what works best for your family. From versatile seating options to all-terrain wheels, we’re sure you’ll find something that fits every budget and lifestyle.
