Things to Consider Before Buying an All-Terrain Stroller

This is a quick checklist of the basic features you’d need in an all-terrain stroller. First and foremost, because we want the best for our babies. And considering how much these cute little things cost, it’s best to take out time, and assess our options carefully.

Current and Future Usage

Babies don’t stay young for too long. They actually grow by the day! That’s why baby stuff should accommodate these developments, and adapt as much as possible to their changing needs.

Always aim to get a stroller that’s lightweight, foldable, and rolls nicely on a pavement as well as on grass. And of course, a bassinet that transforms into a chair is always a huge plus.

Safety and Comfort

Safety always comes first, and to that end, you should check the materials, brakes, and baby harness. Also, make sure that there’s a covering that protects your baby from the wind, sun, or rain.

Comfort applies to both you and your baby. If the stroller is adjustable and flexible, that should keep you and your child happy. Lightweight and easy driving also count towards comfort.

Ease of Use

Parents normally use the baby stroller a lot! whether inside the house or outside. This includes a lot of folding, unfolding, accessing the lower compartment storage, adjusting the stroller, and pushing it. There’s also cleaning and maintenance. Let’s not forget that.

Clearly, these matters need to be as easy to perform as possible.

That’s not all. This brand is ‘built to last’. That’s why the materials are always of the highest quality, and the strollers are transformable to suit the babies as they grow into toddlers. It’s worth noting that the price tag attached to these elegant strollers is pretty fancy too!

Features & Benefits of the Bugaboo Fox

The Bugaboo Fox stroller comes with several practical features. It’s actually one of the nicest we’ve come across. Here’s why.

Weight and Size

This stroller is among the lightest of the Bugaboo models. It weighs about 21 pounds, which is about 8 pounds less than the Bugaboo Donkey. This means easier driving around, packing in the car, and less troublesome to fold.

The overall dimensions of the stroller are approximately 26 x 21 x 7 inches when it folds, which is not the size of an umbrella, but still, it’s convenient. It can be stowed away in any corner until needed.

The Baby’s Bassinet

Bugaboo Fox Complete Full-Size Stroller, Black - Fully-Loaded Foldable Stroller with Advanced Suspension and All-Terrain Wheels

The bassinet is elegant, roomy, and quite protective of the baby. The fabric is designed to suit the infant’s skin from the earliest days. In addition, the bassinet base is flat and has a generous padding for extra comfort.

The handle of the bassinet facilitates transportation, if that’s required at any time. And it does have a perk for mommy and daddy; which is a soft leather covering. This makes carrying the bassinet easier on your palms, and gives a good grip of the handle.

The canopy covering and the apron can cover up the baby from head to toes, which gives good weather protection. It’s also more conducive of quiet napping.

The Bassinet is roomy and sturdy, so as your baby grows, it would still be accomodating.

The Toddler’s Seat

The toddler’s seat is suitable for kids who have more control over their sitting position. It has a 3-point harness, and has the same handle as the bassinet. Actually, it fits on the exact same frame, but takes a few adjustments and tweaks.

The baby seat has a weight capacity of around 48 pounds, which reflects a sturdy frame. Furthermore, the chair’s width is about 14 inches, so a three-year-old could sit in that luxurious stroller with no trouble at all.

The seat has three reclining positions, which should match easily with your baby’s current mood. Wanting to take a nap is very different from wanting to see the world, and this stroller allows for both.

Moreover, the orientation of the seat is adjustable, so your baby could be facing you or facing the street. Totally up to you.

The baby seat is about 23 inches high, which makes carrying your baby in an out of the seat easy on your back.

Sun Protection

According to the manufacturer, this stroller has gone through 1500 safety checks, so parents can rest assured that their babies are well taken care of.

Among the important safety features, is a good protection from the sun. And this is provided through an adjustable canopy, that’s rated UPF 50+. The best part of the canopy is that it extends far and wide to cover most of the exposed parts of the bassinet.

It also serves as a rain cover, which is absolutely important when you live in a rainy climate. An all-terrain stroller is often used for hikes and walks that go a bit off road. So in case the weather decides to go a bit rough, your child should be fully protected.

The canopy is machine washable, which is great. However, it does have a bit of a downside. It doesn’t have mesh or transparent windows that let you check on your baby. These also come in handy as they keep the kids engaged with their surroundings.

The canopy, like the rest of the fabrics in the stroller, is made from environment friendly materials.

The Suspension System

The wheels and suspension system of the Bugaboo Fox are remarkably well designed. They far exceed the basic requirements of all-terrain strollers. The improvements of this model provide a ride that’s smooth and allows for maximum maneuverability.

The rear wheels are quite large with their 12-inches diameter, and they’re equipped with a fine set of shock absorbers. The front wheels are a little smaller to allow for better steering. In addition, there’s a dedicated suspension system in the center of the frame to iron out any bumps in the road.

Handlebar Adjustment

The handlebar is adjustable from about 35 to 42 inches. Extending or decreasing the height of the handlebar lets you drive the stroller without leaning down or lifting your arms up. This is for the parent’s comfort, which is a thoughtful gesture that’s much appreciated.

Storage Capacity

While the Bugaboo Fox is a devoid of side pockets, it comes with plentiful storage in the lower basket. It can carry up to 22 pounds of baby items, or a whole bag of diapers.

Regardless of the orientation you choose for the baby’s seat, you can still access the storage basket easily. It’s contents will be totally reachable from the back or the front.

Locking and Unlocking the Brakes

This is a tricky business that sounds simple, but we know from experience it’s not. Bugaboo Fox designers were also aware of the glitches that parents could face with braking pedals. And that’s why they designed a single pedal that engages and disengages the brakes.

All you need is just to press the large pedal with your foot, in both cases.

Alternatives & Conclusion

The Bugaboo Fox stroller is a great choice for parents who are constantly on the move. Being a mom or a dad shouldn’t limit your love for the outdoors. It could actually help you in bringing up a nature loving sociable child. And this stroller is the perfect assistant for that.

It’s comfortable, easy to drive, has an impressive suspension system, and it’s built to last. It has several other perks like ample storage, effective weather protection, adjustable positioning, and easy folding.

However, nobody is perfect. Not even this fancy stroller! It comes with a hefty price tag, that might not be suitable for all budgets. The Bumbleride All-Terrain Infant Baby Indie Stroller (Tourmaline Wave) is also lightweight, durable, and comes at half the price.

For more economic options, you can check out the Bumbleride Strollers. They offer several combinations for twin babies, jogger parents, all-terrain fans, and city dwellers. These strollers are also eco-friendly, and that’s always a plus.

You could also take a look at the UPPAbaby strollers for a wide variety of models that suit every need and every budget.
