One of the nice things about welcoming a new child into your family is the number of hand-me-downs you receive from other people. These are often clothing and toys that their children no longer use. But sometimes, you strike gold with a real gem.

Why Trust Us?

Because my full-time job is being mom to 2 precious daughters, and I know a thing or two about strollers. Besides personal experience, I get feedback from other moms who use these strollers every day and put all that research into our unbiased stroller buying guides

Some baby gear items that have been discontinued or are out of stock can come into your possession through previous users. These items still have a lot of life left in them and can be used for many years to come.

One of these gems is the Maxi-Cosi Kaia, which was discontinued but still lives on as a great stroller.

Things to Consider Before Buying a Maxi-Cosi Kaia

One of the obvious things about acquiring or purchasing a secondhand or unused item that has been discontinued is that it becomes more difficult to obtain replacement parts if the need arises.

Additionally, the Kaia is a lightweight standard stroller as well as a convertible/travel system. You can transport this piece of gear with ease due to its compact size and low weight. You can also store it easily due to its small fold-up size and the fact that it can be placed vertically when not in use because the stroller auto-locks keep everything in place.

However, the Maxi-Cosi Kaia stroller is unlikely to do well in rough terrain areas or grassy fields. Therefore, if you are looking for a stroller that will tackle the nature trails, you are better off looking for a jogger or all-terrain stroller.

The Maxi-Cosi Kaia is made for only one child. It does not come in a double stroller form or have accessories that you can add for multiple children. However, you can attach a Maxi-Cosi infant seat to it (the Mico or the Prezi models) to utilize it as a travel system in the early infant days.

Adjustable Footrest

It is essential that as your child grows, their stroller grows with them. Our kids gain inches in height in the blink of an eye, which means that they require more room to be comfortable.

One of the many benefits of an adjustable footrest is that it can change levels to accommodate growth. As an infant, the rest can be placed at the highest level. However, over time it can be moved down to account for a tall child’s long legs and torso.

Although this seems like a minor benefit, it actually falls into the premium feature category. To use a stroller for the long term, a child has to feel comfortable in it. If they experience a cramped feeling or can’t relax, they are less likely to use it. Therefore, the footrest adds a layer of comfort that we didn’t know we needed.

Infant Seat Adapter

When you first bring your newborn home, you want to protect them from all external surroundings. Just setting them into the stroller exposes them to all the people and elements that they encounter.

This is why many parents choose the route of a travel system. It allows them to have the baby safely cocooned and away from things that could be harmful to their growing immune systems. It gives parents peace of mind and keeps the baby safe.

Because of this, it is beneficial that the Maxi-Cosi Kaia comes with adapters that accommodate the brand’s infant seats. Not only can the stroller be used in a lightweight form, but it can also take on the role of a travel system for the times it is needed.

Multiple Recline Levels

All parents have found themselves hoping and wishing that their young child will doze off for a nap while in the stroller for a walk or outing. One of the things that help this happen is having a recline option on the stroller seat.

Even better, having multiple levels for reclining can allow your child to lay flat in their comfy seat. This position mimics their beds, making it easier for them to nod off during a stroll.

For this reason, the multiple recline level feature, from the upright position to fully reclined, on the Maxi-Cosi Kaia is applauded by parents and caregivers everywhere. Anything that makes everyday tasks easier is immensely appreciated.

Machine Washable Seating Pad

Children do not often care about cleanliness. Because of this, we often find smashed food, spilled drinks, and random toys stuck down into the stroller seat. Having a washable seating pad is a blessing since it allows you to easily clean a vital part of the stroller and replace it as if nothing happened.

One step up from a washable seating pad is a machine washable seating pad. You have to hand wash or spot wash the seat cover most often due to the material it’s made of. However, some materials allow you to stick the cover in the washing machine and then air dry or machine dry on low.

The Maxi-Cosi Kaia allows you to machine wash the seat cover. Not only can you get rid of all the food particles and drink stains, but you can also do so effortlessly. Throw it in the machine, dry it, and put it back on the seat!

Retractable Sun Canopy

Having a cover that goes over your child’s head is vital when using a stroller. You have to be able to protect them from the elements.

At the same time, it is helpful to be able to reach in to help your child with certain things. They often need help because they are trying to ask you a question, and you can’t make out what they are saying. But just as frequently, they want a snack or their cup, or they fall asleep, and you want to check on them.

For these situations, having a retractable sun canopy is helpful. It allows you to protect your child from outside sources while also giving you the ability to help them when needed.

The Maxi-Cosi Kaia wins in this category as well. This stroller model includes the necessary sun canopy while also allowing you to retract it when needed. Features like this make it much easier to carry on with your day, knowing that your child is covered and easily accessible.
