Table of Contents

Nuna and UPPAbaby

Nuna and UPPAbaby are both well-respected brands in the stroller industry. UPPAbaby started making strollers in 2006, around the same time as Nuna, with their flagship UPPAbaby VISTA stroller.

The VISTA was a unique addition to the stroller market with the ability to swap from a toddler seat to an infant bassinet or car seat with a simple click. It sat at a mid-to-high-end price point and satisfied parents looking for baby gear that was attractive and sleek.

Nuna, a baby gear manufacturer with roots in the Netherlands, created the Demi Grow stroller to meet similar parent needs. The Nuna Demi Grow is a beautiful single-to-double stroller with a huge range of configurations including a toddler seat, infant bassinet, and infant car seat. It has abundant comfort- and convenience-focused features and costs about the same as the UPPAbaby VISTA.

Both UPPAbaby and Nuna focus on creating products that have practical functions and sleek aesthetics. Strollers from both brands focus on clean lines and streamlined designs. They come in high-end, textured fabrics and beautiful, sophisticated colors.

If you’re looking for a full-size, luxury, single-to-double stroller with modern conveniences and a classic look, you can’t go wrong with the UPPAbaby VISTA V2, the brand’s newest VISTA version, or the Nuna Demi Grow.

Both convertible strollers have excellent features like advanced four-wheel suspension, countless single and double stroller configurations, one-handed recline, adjustable calf support, a height-extendable parent push bar, and easy folding mechanisms with the ability to stand when folded.

Let’s look at the pros and cons that set these strollers apart from each other when matched up head-to-head.

  • Advanced magnetic harness system makes securing your child a breeze.

Features That Matter

Now we’ll take a closer look at the individual features of each stroller and how they compare.

Cost

The UPPAbaby VISTA costs around $1,100 (unless purchasing a discontinued color), including the toddler seat and bassinet.

The Nuna Demi Grow starts at around $950 but does not include a bassinet. Nuna’s compatible bassinet costs about $250, which puts the Demi Grow stroller total at $100 more than the VISTA.

The difference in cost grows when factoring in a second seat. The VISTA second seat costs $165 to $220 depending on the fabric, and the Demi Grow second seat costs $250.

The approximate total costs add up as follows:

  • Stroller with toddler seat and bassinet
    • VISTA: $1,100
    • Demi Grow: $950 + $250 = $1,200
  • Stroller with toddler seat, bassinet, and second seat
    • VISTA: $1100 + $220 = $1,320
    • Demi Grow: $950 + $250 + $250 =$1,450

In conclusion, the Nuna Demi Grow ends up costing about $100 more than the UPPAbaby VISTA when comparing identical items, but overall the strollers are similar in cost.

Note that there is an option to skip the bassinet altogether and use the Demi Grow as a double stroller with two seats for a total of $1,200. The VISTA cannot be purchased without the bassinet.

Maneuverability

Both strollers have premium shock absorption on all four wheels for a smooth, comfortable ride.

The Demi Grow has a dual suspension function that allows you to toggle between two settings depending on the terrain.

Sun Protection

Nuna Demi Grow Sun canopy

The Demi Grow comes with two different canopies, both with UPF 50+ sun protection. One has mesh side panels with protection from mosquitoes with a mesh drape for privacy. The other has full coverage and a water-resistant canopy.

The VISTA has a large UPF 50+ sun canopy that zips out to create full coverage. It has mesh airflow panels and a peekaboo window, which conveniently slides upward to create more headroom for your baby as they grow.

Configurations

The Demi Grow and the VISTA can both accommodate any combination of an infant car seat, bassinet, toddler seat, or two of the same.

The second seat on the Demi Grow sits below and behind the first seat, whereas the second seat in the VISTA sits below and in front of the first seat. This gives the second seat in the VISTA a better view and easier accessibility.

Nuna Demi Grow Configurations

The Demi Grow second seat also ends up sitting inside the stroller’s storage basket space, limiting its cargo capacity.

UPPAbaby makes a piggyback ride-along board for the VISTA, so it can carry three children with one standing for a ride. Nuna doesn’t make a ride-along board for their strollers, but the Demi Grow FAQ page indicates that it is compatible with two models by Lascal.

Seat Style

Both strollers come with a reversible toddler seat that can support riders up to 50 pounds. They are equipped with one-handed reclining ability and adjustable calf support to keep the stroller comfortable for your little one.

The Demi Grow’s toddler seat has a zip-out panel that changes the seat back from thick, cozy fabric to breathable mesh on warmer days.

Although both seats have a five-point harness with no-rethread technology, the Demi Grow has a magnetic buckle that makes securing your baby extra easy.

Second Seat

The second seat available for the VISTA is different from the brand’s regular stroller seat and only holds children up to 35 pounds, which can be limiting.

The Demi Grow’s second seat has a more versatile 50-pound weight limit.

Handlebar

The push bar of the VISTA and the Demi Grow are similar.

The VISTA is adorned with full-grain leather and the Demi Grow with leatherette accents for a luxe look. They also can extend to various heights, which is great for taller parents.

Storage Capacity

This is one category where the VISTA stroller wins big.

Both strollers are equipped with a roomy storage basket underneath the stroller seat. The storage capacity for the Demi Grow is only 10 pounds according to its manual, but the VISTA can hold a whopping 30 pounds of cargo. That’s enough for a loaded diaper bag plus a few grocery bags or a piece of luggage.

Folding Mechanism

The Demi Grow and the VISTA have a simple, one-step folding mechanism.

Both strollers stand on their own when folded to make for easy storage, and they both fold with one toddler seat attached. The second seat should be removed from each stroller before collapsing.

UPPAbaby VISTA Folding Mechanism

Car Seat Compatibility

Both strollers turn into a convenient travel system with infant car seats that clip into each stroller with a simple click.

The Nuna Demi Grow stroller is only compatible with Nuna PIPA infant car seats, and adapters are needed to attach them.

The UPPAbaby VISTA is compatible with car seats by UPPAbaby, Nuna, Chicco, Maxi-Cosi, and Cybex. In contrast to the Demi Grow, the VISTA only requires adapters for car seats outside the UPPAbaby brand.

Size & Weight

The VISTA and the Demi Grow are both relatively large, heavy, durable strollers.

As a single stroller, the Nuna Demi Grow weighs 27.4 pounds. This does not include the seat insert, arm bar, or canopy, all of which would typically be attached to your stroller. The UPPAbaby VISTA weighs 27 pounds with the same features included.

Attaching a second seat adds 8 pounds to the Demi Grow and 7 pounds to the VISTA, making them both more difficult to carry (35.4 pounds for the Demi Grow and 34 pounds for the VISTA) and increasing the weight gap between the two.

The folded and unfolded dimensions of both strollers are as follows according to the manufacturers’ websites. The VISTA’s smaller size when folded makes it a bit easier to store or fit into the car trunk.

Demi Grow Dimensions

  • Folded: 23.5” by 24” by 35”
  • Unfolded: 39.5” by 24” by 43.5”

VISTA Dimensions

  • Folded: 17.3” by 25.7” by 33.3”
  • Unfolded: 36” by 25.7” by 39.5”

Bassinet

The most significant difference between the Nuna Demi Grow Bassinet and the UPPAbaby VISTA Bassinet is that the UPPAbaby VISTA stroller includes the bassinet with your purchase.

Both bassinets are approved for your baby to sleep in overnight, according to the manufacturers, and have machine-washable liners and mattress covers.

Parents can purchase sleek bassinet stands from UPPAbaby or Nuna for nighttime resting spots on trips or at home. When you’re finished using the bassinet for your newborn, UPPAbaby also sells a hamper insert to extend the life of the bassinet stand.

Each bassinet has an ample, extendable UPF 50+ protection sun shade. Nuna’s bassinet is suitable for babies until 20 pounds or 27 inches. UPPAbaby’s bassinet is suitable for babies until 20 pounds or until they can push up on hands and knees.

Finally, the UPPAbaby bassinet includes a protective bug shield with your purchase, and can conveniently be used with their other strollers including the Cruz, the Ridge jogging stroller, and the Minu travel stroller with additional adapters.

Final Thoughts

Parents can’t go wrong with the Nuna Demi Grow or the UPPAbaby VISTA V2 when looking for a full-size, luxury, single-to-double stroller to last through the years.

In our opinion, the UPPAbaby VISTA is slightly more appealing with the ability to transport three children (via UPPAbaby ride-along board), compatibility with multiple car seat brands, greater under-seat storage, and easier portability. Having the bassinet included with your purchase cuts out the need to buy another item for your newborn and gives the stroller a reduced overall cost when compared to the Nuna stroller and bassinet.

The Nuna Demi Grow, however, is impressive with high-tech features like a magnetic buckle, a zip-out seat back for warm weather, dual parent-controlled suspension, a 50-pound weight capacity for both seats, and two canopy styles that accommodate different outdoor settings.
