In this article, we compare and contrast some of the most popular strollers that these companies produce so that you can clearly see which option is the best for you.

First of all, let’s find out more about these two manufacturers.

Table of Contents

Mountain Buggy: Engineered for the Mountains, Designed for the City

Mountain Buggy launched its first all-terrain stroller in 1992. At that time, the all-terrain stroller was a brand-new concept that has since been copied by most other stroller manufacturers keen to grab a slice of the niche market.

If you’re a keen hiker and you love to explore the Great Outdoors with your children, Mountain Buggy’s rugged build and smart, stylish strollers are perfect for you. Mountain Buggy strollers are equally at home in the city for shopping and errand-running too.

Baby Jogger: No Limits. No Boundaries

Baby Jogger first appeared in 1984 by a dad who wanted to take his infant son with him when he went jogging.

Realizing that regular strollers just can’t cope with the rigors of off-roading and moving at a faster pace than walking, Baby Jogger created a stroller that could handle the stresses and strains of off-road work and running.

Baby Jogger now produces strollers, car seats, and associated kids’ gear accessories. Like Mountain Buggy’s strollers, Baby Jogger is as at home in the city as it is on the trail.

Mountain Buggy Nano vs. Baby Jogger City Mini

If you’re looking for a travel-friendly stroller that has a compact fold, both the Mountain Buggy Nano and the Baby Jogger City Mini are strollers to consider.

Mountain Buggy Nano Stroller, Black
  • Infant car seat ready ; no need to purchase additional adapters and now has a soft shell cocoon carrycot available (sold separately) for newborns
  • New, narrower compact size at just Dimension - 12 x 22 x 20 inches (Folded) with 44 lb. weight capacity and suitable for children up to 4 years
  • Easy two-step, compact fold meets regulations for airline carryon luggage. Travel bag and shoulder strap included
Baby Jogger City Mini Stroller - 2016 | Compact, Lightweight Stroller | Quick Fold Baby Stroller
  • Lightweight Stroller: The essence of urban mobility: lightweight, compact and nimble
  • The Fold: Patented quick fold technology allows stroller to fold in one step
  • Seat: Multiple recline positions with a 50 lb weight capacity

Here’s how the two strollers compare:

Weight and size

Both the Mountain Buggy Nano and the Baby Jogger City Mini are smaller than most regular, full-size strollers. Although the Nano is slightly smaller and lighter, the difference is negligible. The Mini is broader and taller than the Nano, which allows more room for a growing child.

Both the strollers are comfortable to push and aren’t too heavy to handle.

Fold

For two sizeable strollers, both the Mountain Buggy Nano and the Baby Jogger City Mini are pretty compact when folded, although the way of folding is different.

The Mini folds both vertically and horizontally, making the folded size around one-eighth of its unfolded size. The Nano can fit into the overhead compartment on an airplane, depending on the individual airline’s rules. However, some users report that you have to remove the Nano’s rear wheels for it to fit into a luggage bin, which could be a pain for frequent flyers.

Canopy

The Baby Jogger City Mini has a massive canopy, much bigger than that of the Nano. The Mini’s canopy can be extended to give an older child total sun protection on hot days.

In comparison, the Nano has a very small canopy. Also, when the canopy is fully opened, it completely covers the stroller’s handlebar, which causes it to catch on the pusher’s knuckles. Annoying!

Unfortunately, neither the Mountain Buggy Nano nor the Baby Jogger City Mini has a peek-a-boo window. Although that’s not a deal-breaker, it would be nice to have.

Storage

The Mini has a decent-sized under-seat basket, which is much bigger and more enclosed than the Mountain Buggy Nano’s basket.

However, access to the City Mini’s basket is restricted to the front and sides compared with the Nano, where you have easy access from all sides. That said, you can fit a medium-sized diaper bag into the Mini’s basket with room to spare. One major issue with the Nano’s storage basket is that it’s not enclosed or covered, so there’s a risk that your things could bounce out when you’re running across uneven ground.

Maneuverability and handling

Both the Mountain Buggy Nano and the Baby Jogger City Mini handle extremely well and provide you with a smooth, easy push. Each stroller has a swivel front wheel that can be locked for times when you’re negotiating bumpy terrain, preventing the stroller from wandering off a true line.

Shock absorbers on the front wheels ensure a lovely smooth ride for your passenger over pretty much any kind of ground.

Seat

Both the Mountain Buggy Nano and the Baby Jogger City Mini have generous, well-padded seats that are supportive and comfy. Both strollers have a seat recline that can be adjusted to an almost flat position. However, neither is suitable for a newborn unless used with a bassinet or seat insert.

When the seat on the Nano is fully reclined, the mesh back of the seat doesn’t have a cover, so your child will be exposed to the elements. While that’s great on a hot day when you want extra ventilation, it could be an issue during the winter or on rainy days. The City Mini does have a cover that keeps the seat fully enclosed, and it can be rolled up if you want more air circulation on hot days.

Accessories

The City Mini comes with a cupholder that’s ideal for carrying your water bottle. With the Nano, you get a travel bag with a carry handle attached, whereas you’ll need to buy the bag separately if you want one for the City Mini. That said, the City Mini’s travel bag is much better quality than the one you get with the Nano, so it’s likely to last you much longer.

If your child likes a belly bar to hang onto while riding, you can buy one for the City Mini, although there isn’t one available for the Nano.

One item that’s missing from the City Mini stroller is a carry strap. The Nano has a carry strap that’s attached to the stroller, and you can pull the strap through once the carry bag is on too.

Mountain Buggy Nano Duo vs. Baby Jogger City Mini Double

Both the Mountain Buggy Nano and the Baby Jogger City Mini strollers come in a double version, which is perfect for you if you’re planning on growing your family.

Here’s an overview of both these top-quality strollers, highlighting the differences between them.

 Mountain Buggy Nano Duo 2018

Mountain Buggy Nano Duo Buggy, Year of The Dog
  • YEAR OF THE DOG REFLECTIVE AND HOLOGRAPHIC PRINT! An incredible fabric innovation!
  • ULTRA LIGHTWEIGHT! Just a 20lbs double stroller to make pushing two that much easier!
  • ULTRA COMPACT FOLD! No double folds smaller! Perfect for travel and quick errands around town!

Mountain Buggy released this upgraded double side-by-side version of their popular Nano stroller in 2018.

The stroller can be used for newborns, as well as toddlers. And even with two kids on board, the Nano Duo is impressively light, weighing just 20 pounds! The Nano Duo is the ideal choice for families who enjoy getting out and about with their kids, strolling around the park, running errands in town, and traveling.

The Nano Duo comes in a range of six vibrant colors, as well as black.

Seating options

The Mountain Buggy Nano Duo has several seating options, including for newborn twins, two toddlers, or an infant and a toddler.

Once your child can sit upright unaided, there are two toddler seats that are suitable for kids from about six months. The total weight capacity is a generous 33 pounds per seat. The well-padded seats have good headroom, making the Nano Duo a great choice for tall children.

Mountain Buggy Nano Duo Buggy, Year of The Dog

Each seat reclines independently via a strap and buckle system. Although the recline is not completely flat, it’s deep enough for kids who enjoy a nap during strolls. The seats have vented mesh tops that you can use for extra ventilation on hot days, and there’s a fabric overlay that you can extend for cooler weather.

For the comfort of your passengers, the Nano Duo has individual, adjustable calf rests. And for safety, each seat has an adjustable five-point harness. For newborn babies, the Nano Duo has a detachable cocoon that’s sold separately.

Canopy

The Nano Duo has two separate, three-panel canopies that can be adjusted independently. Although the canopies aren’t the most generous, they do block the sun out of kids’ eyes. Unfortunately, the canopies are lacking a peek-a-boo window.

The Nano Duo does have a storm cover that’s useful on wet, windy days, but you have to buy that separately.

Mountain Buggy Nano Duo Buggy, Year of The Dog

Wheels

The Mountain Buggy Nano Duo has a single front wheel design and dual rear wheels. The front wheels swivel for easy steering and maneuverability, and you can lock them for better stability too.

However, the wheels are small, so they’re really only suitable for use over relatively smooth going. The rear wheels do have suspension built-in, which does absorb some of the bumps and cushions the ride a little.

The design of the Nano Duo also ensures that the weight of your cargo is evenly distributed, making it easy for you to lift the front of the stroller over curbs.

Handlebar

The Nano Duo doesn’t have an adjustable handlebar. So, although parents of average height will have no problem pushing this stroller, taller people could finish up kicking the rear of the stroller and stooping.

Fold

The fold is compact and can be achieved easily with two hands. Once folded, the Nano Duo is quite compact and will fit into the trunk of most cars without difficulty.

Baby Jogger City Mini Double

Baby Jogger City Mini Double Stroller - 2016 | Compact, Lightweight Double Stroller | Quick Fold Baby Stroller, Black/Gray
  • Patented quick fold technology fold your lightweight double stroller in one step
  • Twin stroller features front wheel suspension soaks up road bumps
  • Comfortably padded seats reclines to a near flat position with vented seat tops.Padded seat with 150 Degree Recline Angle

The Baby Jogger City Mini Double stroller is similar to the Nano Duo in that it’s perfect for strolling and running errands in the urban jungle. However, the City Mini Double also performs well off-road.

With an adjustable handlebar, super-coverage canopy, and rear-wheel suspension system, this is a feature-packed stroller that’s a perfect, lightweight all-rounder. And with six colorways to choose from, the City Mini Double has style in abundance too.

Seat

The City Mini Double has super-comfy padded seats and five-point adjustable harnesses for safety. The City Mini Double has a higher capacity than the Nano Duo, with each seat able to take a passenger of up to 50 pounds.

The seats are generous and have long backrests, making them ideal for tall toddlers and even older children too.

The seats feature a multi-position recline, including a near-flat position. Like the Nano Duo, the recline is achieved via a strap and buckle system. Again, like the Nano Duo, the City Mini Double cannot be used for newborns unless you buy the Compact Pram bassinet.

Both seats have concealed mesh vents that you can uncover for extra ventilation on hot days.

Wheels and handling

The City Mini Double has larger wheels than the Nano Duo. The wheels are rubber, which means that this stroller can handle harsher terrain. Like the Nano Duo, you can lock the front swivel wheel for better stability and easier steering.

Brake

The City Mini Double has a hand-operated parking brake that’s located just below the handlebar to the right of the canopy. Thanks to the position of the brake, it doesn’t get in the way when you’re pushing the stroller, and it’s much easier to operate than the traditional footbrake on the Nano Duo.

Canopy

The City Mini Double has a lovely adjustable canopy made from SPF 50+ fabric to protect your child from the sun’s UV rays. Each canopy is individually adjustable, and you can pull the canopies right down to cover the whole child for excellent sun coverage.

Unlike the Nano Duo, the City Mini Double’s canopies have two peek-a-boo windows. The only downside to the canopies is the noisy Velcro closure that could disturb a sleeping child.

Handlebar

Unlike the Nano Duo, the City Mini Double has an adjustable handlebar, which is a big plus point if you’re tall.

Storage

The City Mini Double has a generous storage basket, but it’s divided by a central bar, meaning that it’s difficult to fit a medium-sized diaper bag inside. However, plenty of smaller items will fit comfortably.

Access to the basket is also difficult because of the bar. That said, you do get two extra pockets on the seatbacks for your phone, keys, wallet, etc.

Fold

The City Mini Double has a brand-new patented self-folding system that enables the stroller to fold quickly and smoothly in one easy movement. Although that’s fantastic, and there is an auto-lock feature, the stroller isn’t self-standing.

Mountain Buggy Nano vs. Baby Jogger City Tour

The Baby Jogger City Tour is a compact, foldable stroller that’s designed for parents who like to travel light. The folded size of the stroller enables it to fit comfortably into most airplane overhead lockers, as well as taking up minimal space in your car trunk.

Baby Jogger City Tour 2 Single Stroller, Slate
  • Newly redesigned, with infant car seat compatibility
  • Ultra compact one hand fold and auto lock.Care & Cleaning: Spot or Wipe Clean
  • Three ways to ride for infants and toddlers

The City Tour is a lightweight push, too, making it ideal for new moms. Your passenger will enjoy a super-smooth ride too. When it comes to the all-important fold, the City Tour can be folded one-handed, enabling you to drop the stroller even if you have your child in one hand.

Baby Jogger City Tour 2 Single Stroller, Slate

The auto-lock feature is activated when the stroller is folded, making packing the whole thing into the included carry-case a quick and easy operation.

You can use the City Tour for a child of six months of age to a toddler of around 45 pounds in weight. The seat is designed to carry tall kids, so it’s ideal if you have a large toddler. The five-point safety harness keeps even the wiggliest child securely in their seat. You can recline the seat to an almost flat position for napping.

Baby Jogger City Tour 2 Single Stroller, Slate

The City Tour has a modest retractable sun canopy that keeps your child shaded.

The under-seat basket is also a reasonable size for this kind of stroller. In addition to its size, it can also hold an impressive 15 pounds in weight.

The Mountain Buggy Nano is a wonderful stroller that’s designed for families who love to travel with its super-compact fold and lightweight design. Similar to the City Tour, the Nano will fit into the luggage bin on most airplanes, and it folds up neatly to slot into your car trunk too.

The Nano’s rear wheels have built-in suspension and small EVA wheels that help to create a smooth ride. Locking the stroller is also a breeze thanks to the highly visible, color-defined footbrake.

Like the City Tour, the front wheel on the Nano can be locked to keep the stroller straight when negotiating uneven going.

Mountain Buggy Nano Stroller, Black

To fold the Mountain Buggy Nano, you’ll need to use two hands. However, once folded, the stroller is very compact and lightweight. The Nano comes with its own travel bag too, although it’s not of the same quality as that of the City Tour.

Mountain Buggy Nano Stroller, Black

The Nano is also available with a travel system and is car seat compatible via an onboard car seat adapter, enabling you to move a sleeping baby from your car straight into the stroller without disturbing them.

There’s a ride-along board available for the Nano so that an older child can come along for the ride.

Baby Jogger City Mini GT vs. Mountain Buggy Swift and Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle

The Baby Jogger City Mini GT is an upgraded version of the City Mini, having a deeper, taller seat, and a hand-operated parking brake. There’s a removable auto-lock feature for keeping the stroller closed when it’s not in use, an adjustable handlebar, easier access to the storage basket, and peek-a-boo windows. Add to that 8.5-inch forever-air wheels, and you have a fantastic vehicle that’s excellent value for money.

  • Patented quick fold technology fold your lightweight stroller with one hand; Care The seat can be washed in cold water on the delicate cycle of your washing machine and attached back onto...
  • 3 Wheel Stroller: 8.5 inches all terrain non flat tires with front wheel suspension provide a smooth comfortable ride
  • Plush padded seat reclines to a near flat position with vented seat top

The Mountain Buggy Swift has a narrow, durable, yet lightweight frame. The Swift’s three, 10-inch air-filled wheels make the stroller easy to maneuver around town and excellent for off-road use, too, giving your passenger a smooth ride, despite the lack of a suspension system.

You can use the Swift for a newborn thanks to the car seat and carrycot options, and the lay-flat seat recline.

The Baby Jogger City Mini GT is also extremely versatile and is packed with handy features, including a large storage basket, a one-handed fold, and a mesh storage pocket. The City Mini GT’s seat is now even bigger and can easily take a sizeable toddler. The City Mini GT can take a car seat and a carrycot too to create a complete travel system.

The canopy on the City Mini GT is massive! However, the rim of the canopy is a little low for a tall child, although you can alleviate this problem by only opening only one of the canopy’s extension panels.

Baby Jogger City Mini GT Stroller - 2016 | Baby Stroller with All-Terrain Tires | Quick Fold Lightweight Stroller, Black

The Mountain Buggy Swift is a smart off-road stroller that’s narrow and lightweight while being built to cope with rough terrain. The Swift has an easy, one-handed fold and free-stands when folded. The storage basket is a decent size and is easy to access from all sides of the stroller.

The generous canopy has a flip-out sun visor for extra coverage, and there’s a peek-a-boo window too. The handlebar is adjustable, but it’s quite low even at maximum height, which could be a problem for tall parents.

Mountain Buggy Swift Stroller

Mountain Buggy’s Urban Jungle stroller is a hybrid all-terrain stroller that’s suitable for off-road use but also makes a super vehicle for trips around town. You can use the Urban Jungle from birth, and there are also car seat and carrycot options, too, including a parent-facing seat configuration.

The Urban Jungle has a large storage basket for essentials and lots of extra pouches and pockets to take smaller items. You also get a bottle holder and a bumper bar included with the stroller.

The stroller has a one-handed fold that creates a compact flat package, although you do need plenty of floor space to achieve the fold. Also, the stroller has a freestanding option for easy storage in the home. For super-compact storage, you can easily remove the stroller’s quick-release wheels.

The Urban Jungle does have a few downsides. However, the seat on this stroller is quite shallow, and if you want to use the car seat or carrycot you’ll need to remove the fabric from the seat. Also, the seat fabric tends to bunch up around the child’s head after the seat has been fully reclined.
