Parenthood is all about making the best decisions for your child’s sake, and one of the decisions every new parent has to make is figuring out which stroller is right for their baby.

Why Trust Us?

Because my full-time job is being mom to 2 precious daughters, and I know a thing or two about strollers. Besides personal experience, I get feedback from other moms who use these strollers every day and put all that research into our unbiased stroller buying guides

One of the best strollers available today is the Britax Affinity stroller, but you’ll have to check all its features yourself before you decide to buy it. And luckily for you, we’ve got all the details on the features this lightweight stroller has to offer right here!

Things to Consider Before Buying a Lightweight Stroller

No one stroller suits everyone. So, here are some points to consider before you decide to get a lightweight stroller:

Number of Babies

How many babies do you need your stroller to carry? Lightweight strollers only carry one child at a time. So, if you have twins, a double umbrella stroller would be better for you.

Sturdiness

Just because the stroller is lightweight doesn’t mean its frame won’t be as sturdy. If you’re constantly on the go, you’ll have to make sure your stroller is sturdy enough to handle your schedule and any kind of environment you might visit.

The Seat

You not only have to make sure the seat will be comfortable enough for your child, but you also have to make sure it’s the right size to safely seat your babe. Check that the seat is padded for max comfort, and consider looking into adjustable features that can accommodate a growing child.

Versatility

If you find yourself on the go a lot, it’s wise to make sure your stroller is versatile. For example, it should be easy to fold and wouldn’t take up much space when folded. It should also feature a cover that can protect your child well if it rains and wheels that are durable enough to handle a variety of terrains.

Britax Affinity Overview

The Britax Affinity stroller is a lightweight stroller that carries babies up to three years old and is available on its own or as part of the brand’s travel system. It offers an elegant design with three frame colors to choose from, and six color packs are sold separately so you can customize your stroller.

This stroller’s seat offers an adjustable footrest to help keep your child comfortable and can be adjusted into four different recline positions. You can even shift the seat to face you as you push your child along, or convert it into a car seat when it’s time to leave.

The Britax Affinity is also easy to fold, and it even includes an overall rain cover as well as a hood with adjustable size to protect your child from the sun.

This stroller has two small front tires, two big, air-filled back tires, and easy to use foot brakes. Its frame is made of aluminum with a padded, adjustable handle to ensure sturdiness and comfort.

A bonus: Britax provides you with a theft protection service that can help you retrieve your stroller if it’s stolen.

The bad news is that this stroller has been retired by the manufacturer, so, unfortunately, you can’t buy it new, but you can find it secondhand or through a third-party retailer.

Key Features of the Britax Affinity Stroller

There is no shortage of what the Britax Affinity stroller has to offer, so let’s go through its features together, point by point:

Weight and Usage

The Affinity is very light, weighing in at 25 lbs, so it’s easy to move and carry around. It carries babies from ages 6 months to 3 years, which is the healthy age range for your child to use strollers. The maximum weight it can safely hold is 55 pounds.

If you need something to help you transport your baby who’s less than 6 months old, you can buy the travel system, which includes an infant car seat and a bassinet that both match the stroller.

Design

There’s a lot to be said about the design of the Affinity. Here are the main features of its design:

Seat

One of our favorite features is that the seat goes both ways: you can position it so that your baby is facing you or leave it as it is, facing the opposite direction. So whether you believe in your baby facing you or facing the view, the Affinity has your back.

As we mentioned earlier, Britax Affinity’s seat can also be adjusted to 4 positions, so you can put your baby in a sitting position when they’re wide awake or fully lay them down if he or she is sleepy. Add to this the fact that you can move the footrest of the seat up and down, so your baby is comfortable.

A downside, however, is that depending on your preferences, you might like a seat that’s a little deeper.

Folding

If you need a car seat, you can easily detach the seat from the build of the stroller and fold the frame. That way, you have a safe car seat and don’t need much space to store the stroller. Detaching and folding the Britax stroller is easy to do, which is something you’ll definitely appreciate.

Frame and Materials

The frame of the Affinity is metal and sturdy, which is are characteristics you should look for in any stroller. Its handle is covered with leather and you can push it up and down depending on your liking, which is another feature to celebrate.

Wheels

The Affinity’s front wheels are smaller than its back wheels, and the back wheels are air-filled. The rear wheels are easily filled using a bike pump, but regularly airing the tires could be a nuisance for some, so this is definitely something to keep in mind before you buy this stroller.

The tires also have convenient foot brakes: All you have to do is push the see-saw pedal with your foot. These brakes are easy to use, even if you’re wearing flimsy flip-flops or other open-toed shoes.

Hood

The stroller features an elegant-looking hood that can be unzipped and extended even more to protect your baby from the sun, and the peek-a-boo window allows you to check on your baby as you push him or her along.

Rain Cover

The Affinity comes with a rain cover that covers the whole seat, so your child is well protected and sure to stay dry. This rain cover consists of two grey panels and one clear panel on the top that allows the baby to see through it, so your little one won’t get scared of being in the dark.

Basket

Next to mention about the design is the under-seat storage basket. It isn’t the biggest, so if you’re looking for a place to stash a few goods after a trip to the store, you may be out of luck. But it’s large enough to store all your baby’s necessities, and that’s what matters most here.

Color Pack

Previous Britax stroller models’ colors were always basic, like grey and black, but with the Affinity, you can purchase a color pack that allows you to customize the stroller to your liking and switch colors whenever you need a change.

While the actual build of the stroller can only be silver, black, or white and the build of the seat itself is grey, the color pack can make all the difference. Remember, though, that the color packs are sold separately.

The pack includes a chair cover, a hood, shoulder pads, a buckle pad, a seat liner, and a basket liner, and are available in black thunder, red pepper, blue, green, dusty brown, and violet.

Theft Protection

Britax offers a theft protection service through which you can get your stroller back if you lose it or if it ever gets stolen.

On your stroller, you’ll find a sticker with a special code written on it. Once you get the stroller, you enter that code on a website to register. By registering, you get to enter the status of the stroller on the website, so if your stroller is stolen (and we hope it never is!), you can change its online status.

This way, if an attempt is made to resell the stolen stroller, anyone can see its status and report the seller.

Of course, there’s no guarantee that everyone buying a stroller would actually care enough to look it up on a website, but this anti-theft feature may prove very helpful if used.

Alternatives and Conclusion

The sturdy, chicly designed Britax Affinity can carry babies up to 36 months, and its features make it a versatile stroller that can save your day whenever you need it to.

However, if you feel like the Affinity isn’t the best option for you or would prefer to buy something brand new, check out the Graco Modes Nest Travel System; it has a lot of what the Affinity has to offer and comes at a lower price point.

This Graco stroller is lightweight with an aluminum frame and adjustable seat that can be turned to face you. It also includes an infant car seat and an infant bassinet.

The Graco Modes Nest Travel system has a slightly bigger basket than the one in the Britax Affinity. Plus, it offers a cup holder for the parents for an added bit of convenience.

Its hood is large with a see-through window, much like the one in Affinity. The folding of the Graco stroller is easy as well, only requiring one button.

The stroller comes in nine different colors, but though the selection is larger than that of the Affinity, these hues aren’t quite as bright.

In short, Britax is a famous, well-established brand that’s always been known for its extremely safe and sturdy strollers, but nothing less can be said about Graco. In fact, here’s a comparison we previously made between the two brands; it might help you compare the quality both brands offer and make the best decision for you and your little tyke.
