Tuna Melts

A quick and easy tuna melt made with pickles, mayo, hot sauce, and cheese, broiled until golden brown.

Ingredients

  • 1 can tuna drained
  • a couple tablespoons diced onion
  • a couple tablespoons diced pickle cucumber can also be used
  • 2 tablespoons mayo
  • a dash mustard optional
  • a little bit hot sauce
  • some salt generously added
  • some pepper generously added
  • 2 slices bread any kind
  • 1 slice cheese mozzarella or any kind

Method

  1. Mix drained tuna, onion, pickle (or cucumber), mayo, mustard, hot sauce, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  2. Heat oven to 400 degrees.
  3. Spread tuna mixture evenly over both bread slices.
  4. Top with cheese; place in oven and switch to broil.
  5. Broil a few minutes until golden brown, checking often to prevent burning.

Notes

Total time: 10 to 15 minutes.

Add in two tablespoons of mayo, a dash of mustard if you like mustard, and a little bit of hot sauce, and then generously add some salt and some pepper. Once you have all the ingredients in, we’re just going to mix well to combine.

Preparing The Bread

And go ahead and preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Grab two slices of bread, any kind of bread that you have on hand and it’s fine. And we’re just going to evenly spread the tuna over both pieces of bread.

Tuna salad mixture is spread evenly across two slices of bread on a foil-lined baking sheet, not yet topped with cheese.

Next, we’re going to add one slice of cheese. I’m using mozzarella, but you can use any kind of cheese here.

Broiling The Melts

And we’re going to pop that right into the oven and we’re going to change the temperature so it’s on broil. And we’re just going to broil it for a few minutes until the top is golden brown. So make sure you check so it doesn’t burn.

This dish is high in protein and it comes together only in about 10 to 15 minutes and it’s super comforting.

And that’s it. Enjoy!
