As a mom, I am all about simplicity in the kitchen and making food my kids will actually eat. A BLT is the classic summer sandwich, but I like to throw on a couple of slices of avocado. Making it a BLTA just gives it that little something extra! It is a super simple go-to meal that everyone in the family loves.

Why the BLTA is a Family Favorite
When the weather warms up, nobody wants to spend hours cooking complicated meals. This sandwich is simple, easy, and a classic. Plus, it is incredibly easy to customize. My kiddos absolutely love avocado, so while I am prepping the sandwiches, I always slice up some extra avocado chunks just for them to snack on.
Five simple dinners. One grocery list.
No recipe hunting, no messy shopping notes, no complicated chef projects. Just family dinners that fit real weeks.
Ingredients for the Perfect BLTA
You do not need a lot to make a great sandwich, but picking the right ingredients makes a big difference. Here is what I use for my go-to BLTA:
- Bacon: Cooked to your liking.
- Avocado: Sliced fresh.
- Roma tomatoes: I like to use Roma tomatoes because I feel like the size fits much better on the sandwich bread.
- Lettuce: Rinsed and ready to go.
- Bread: I went with the Sara Lee 45-calorie whole-grain bread on this one, but use your favorite sandwich bread.
- Mayo: I like to use olive oil mayo because I think it has a really great flavor, but you can use any mayo that you like.
- Salt and pepper: Just a little bit for seasoning.
How to Build Your BLTA
Putting this together takes just a few minutes once your ingredients are prepped.
- First, you are going to cook your bacon. Once it is done, drain it onto a paper towel to remove excess grease.
- Slice up your avocado and your Roma tomatoes.
- Rinse your lettuce and get your bread toasted.
- Once the bread is toasted, get your mayo spread on the slices.
- Now, let’s build the sandwich! Layer your bacon, lettuce, and tomato.
- Throw in those slices of avocado, and add a little bit of salt and pepper if you prefer.
- Throw on that extra slice of toast to top it all off.
That is all there is to it! A BLTA is simple, easy, and a classic everyone loves. It is the perfect quick lunch or dinner for a busy summer day.
