Servings: 12 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 8 inch Vanilla Cake Layers 2 cups flour, 1 frac{1}{2} tsp baking powder, 1 frac{1}{4}} salt, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup butter, 2 eggs, 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 batch buttercream = 4 cups powdered sugar + 1 cup softened butter + 2 - 3 tablespoons of milk
  • Gel food coloring: pink and blue
  • 1 cup fresh berries for decoration
  • Pinch of vanilla

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F. Prepare two 8-inch pans by lining and greasing them.
  2. Combine any dry ingredients. Next, cream the butter and sugar together and add the eggs. Then, alternate the dry mixture with the milk.
  3. Divide the batter and color one batch slightly darker for ombre layers. Bake for 18–22 minutes. Let them cool completely.
  4. Make some buttercream and divide it into three bowls. Use gel colors to make a gradient from light to dark colors. Set aside half a cup of the strongest colored buttercream for the center.
  5. Place the layers with a thin crumb coat in between and on the sides so that the layers are visible. Before adding the very top layer, pipe a thick ring of the saved colored buttercream in the center of the top layer.
  6. Gently frost the sides for a naked look, then top with berries.
