Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk warmed to 110°F
  • teaspoons active dry yeast 1 packet
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter melted, plus more for brushing
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture and whisk until combined.
  3. Add flour one cup at a time, mixing with a wooden spoon until a soft dough forms.
  4. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Roll each into a ball and place in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  7. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 375°F.
  8. Bake for 16-18 minutes until golden brown. Brush with melted butter immediately after removing from oven and serve warm.
