Servings: 1 house

Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar packed
  • 0.5 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups royal icing

Method

  1. Beat the butter and brown sugar, then mix in the molasses and egg.
  2. Stir in the flour and spices to form a firm dough, then chill 30 minutes.
  3. Roll the dough thick and cut into wall and roof panels using a template, then bake at 350F for 12 to 15 minutes.
  4. Cool the panels completely until hard and flat.
  5. Pipe royal icing along the edges and assemble the walls, letting them set before adding the roof.
  6. Decorate with candy and a snowy dusting of powdered sugar.

Notes

Let each glued seam dry for a few minutes before adding the next piece or the walls will slide.
