Gingerbread Cookies

Cookies that are cut out and warmly spiced are excellent for icing and turning into little gingerbread men.

Total Time 40 minutes
Servings: 24 cookies

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp baking soda

Method
 

  1. Cream the butter and brown sugar, then beat in the molasses and egg.
  2. Whisk the flour, ginger, cinnamon, and baking soda together and mix into the wet ingredients.
  3. Wrap the dough and chill for 1 hour.
  4. Roll out and cut into shapes, then place on a lined sheet.
  5. Bake at 350F for 8 to 10 minutes; cool before decorating.

Notes

Chilling the dough keeps the shapes crisp.
