Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 8 slices thick-cut bread brioche or challah work great!
  • 2 tablespoons butter for cooking
  • Maple syrup and powdered sugar for serving

Method

  1. In a shallow bowl or pie dish, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  2. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter.
  3. Dip each bread slice into the egg mixture, letting it soak for about 10 seconds per side (you want it coated but not soggy).
  4. Place the soaked bread on the hot griddle and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and slightly crispy on the edges.
  5. Add more butter to the pan as needed for remaining slices.
  6. Serve immediately topped with maple syrup, a dusting of powdered sugar, and fresh berries if desired.
