Ingredients

  • 1 pound bacon cooked crispy and crumbled
  • 8 cups day-old French bread cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Method

  1. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. Layer half of the bread cubes in the bottom of the dish, then sprinkle with half of the bacon and half of the cheese. Repeat layers with remaining bread, bacon, and cheese.

  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread layers, pressing down gently to ensure all bread is soaked.
  5. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight.
  6. In the morning, remove from refrigerator and let sit at room temperature for 20 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  7. Remove plastic wrap and bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes, until golden brown and set in the center.
  8. Let stand for 10 minutes before cutting into squares and serving.
