Buttery sugar cookies shaped like Christmas trees and iced in green, with little candy ornament decorations.
Prep Time 40 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 50 minutes
Servings: 24 cookies

Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cups green icing
  • 0.5 cup rainbow nonpareils
  • 24 star sprinkles for treetops

Method

  1. Beat the butter and sugar until fluffy, then mix in the egg and vanilla.
  2. Stir in the flour to form a dough, then chill 20 minutes.
  3. Roll out to 1/4 inch and cut into Christmas tree shapes.
  4. Bake at 350F for 8 to 10 minutes until the edges are barely golden, then cool completely.
  5. Spread green icing over each tree and scatter on nonpareil ornaments.
  6. Top each tree with a star sprinkle before the icing sets.

Notes

Chilling the dough keeps the trees from spreading and losing their shape.
