Total Time 40 minutes
Servings: 24 cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 cups royal icing

Method

  1. Cream the butter and sugar, then beat in the egg and vanilla.
  2. Mix in the flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Roll the dough to a quarter inch and chill 30 minutes, then cut into festive shapes.
  4. Bake at 350F for 9 to 10 minutes until the edges are barely set, then cool fully.
  5. Decorate with royal icing and sprinkles once the cookies are completely cool.

Notes

Chilling the rolled dough keeps your shapes crisp instead of spreading in the oven.
