Chestnut Stuffing

Chestnuts and celery are combined with buttery herb stuffing, then slow cooked to a perfect golden edge and a moist substructure.

Ingredients
  

  • 10 cups cubed bread dried
  • 1.5 cups roasted chestnuts chopped
  • 1 cup celery diced
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2.5 cups chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp fresh sage chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper

Method
 

  1. Saute the onion and celery in the butter until soft, about 5 minutes.
  2. In the greased crockpot, combine the bread cubes, chestnuts, and the sauteed vegetables.
  3. Pour in the broth and sprinkle with sage, salt, and pepper, then toss until evenly moistened.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours, stirring once halfway through.
  5. Fluff with a fork and serve warm.

Notes

Use pre-roasted, peeled chestnuts from a jar to save a step.
