Method
- Cut the apples crosswise into rings and remove the cores.
- Bring the sugar, water, cinnamon, food coloring, and salt to a boil in a wide skillet.
- Lower the apple rings into the syrup in a single layer.
- Simmer gently 10 to 12 minutes, turning once, until glossy and tender.
- Lift the rings out and let them set on parchment for a few minutes.
- Serve at room temperature.
Notes
Skip the food coloring and use a splash of pomegranate juice for natural color.
