Brioche French Toast Casserole

This is French toast but make it a casserole — one dish, bakes while you're drinking your coffee. Brioche soaks up the custard beautifully and comes out rich and custardy inside with a crisp top. Your people will demolish it.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf brioche bread cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp butter cut into small pieces
  • Powdered sugar and maple syrup for serving

Method

  1. Grease a 9x13 baking dish. Spread brioche cubes evenly in the dish.
  2. Whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg until smooth.
  3. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread, pressing down gently so all the pieces soak up liquid. Dot the top with butter pieces.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake uncovered for 40 to 45 minutes until the top is golden and center is set.
  6. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with warm maple syrup.
