Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 8-inch round pans.
Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
Beat 1 cup butter with sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time. Mix in 1 cup maple syrup and vanilla.
Alternate adding flour mix and milk, starting and ending with flour. Fold in pecans.
Divide batter into pans. Bake 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes, then turn out to cool fully.
For frosting, brown 1/2 cup butter in a pan until nutty smell appears. Cool slightly. Whisk in powdered sugar, 2 tbsp maple syrup, and enough cream for spreadable texture.
Layer cakes with frosting between and around. Top with extra toasted pecans.
