5. Peanut Butter Blossoms

These are a holiday staple but they deserve a spot in the jar all year long. The chocolate kiss in the center is always a hit with kids.
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Granulated sugar for rolling
  • 30 chocolate kisses unwrapped

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Beat the shortening, peanut butter, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add the egg, milk, and vanilla. Mix well.
  4. Stir in the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and coat them in the extra granulated sugar.
  6. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 8 to 10 minutes.
  7. Immediately press a chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie. Cool completely.
