2. Brown Butter Snickerdoodles

Browning the butter takes an extra five minutes but makes these taste incredible. It adds a rich, nutty flavor that elevates a regular snickerdoodle into something special.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar plus 2 tablespoons for rolling
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon for rolling

Method
 

  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until it turns golden brown and smells nutty. Pour into a bowl and let it cool for 15 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Mix the cooled brown butter with 1 cup granulated sugar and the brown sugar. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
  4. Stir in the flour, cream of tartar, and baking soda until a dough forms.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar with the cinnamon.
  6. Roll the dough into balls, then roll each ball in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  7. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 9 to 10 minutes.
