Ingredients
  

  • 2 boxes yellow cake mix plus eggs, oil, water as package directs
  • 2 cups buttercream frosting store-bought is fine
  • Food coloring team colors, about 1 tsp each
  • 1 sheet round cake board 10-inch
  • 1 serrated knife and a number template printed to size

Method
 

  1. Bake two 9-inch round cakes at 350°F for 25–30 minutes; cool 30 minutes.
  2. Level cakes; stack with 1/2 cup frosting between layers.
  3. Place template on top; trace with a toothpick and cut the jersey-number shape.
  4. Crumb coat with 3/4 cup frosting; chill 20 minutes.
  5. Tint remaining frosting and smooth over cake with an offset spatula.
  6. Pipe team accents and name using a small round tip; chill 10 minutes before serving.
