12. Turkey Sausage and Gravy Casserole

When I want something slightly lighter but still comforting, I swap in turkey sausage. It still has great flavor but leaves you feeling a little less weighed down.
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 can 16 oz refrigerated biscuits
  • 1 lb ground turkey breakfast sausage
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups skim milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt and 1 tsp black pepper

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a skillet and brown the turkey sausage until fully cooked.
  3. Sprinkle the flour over the turkey sausage and stir for one minute.
  4. Whisk in the skim milk, salt, and pepper. Simmer until the gravy thickens.
  5. Quarter the biscuits, place them in the dish, and pour the gravy over them.
  6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
