11. Southern Buttermilk Biscuit Gravy Bake

Using frozen buttermilk biscuits instead of canned dough gives this casserole a flakier, more authentic texture that reminds me of my grandmother's cooking.
Servings: 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 bag 12 count frozen buttermilk biscuits
  • 1 lb ground sausage
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  2. Brown the sausage in a skillet, stir in the flour, and whisk in the milk to create a thick gravy. Season heavily with black pepper.
  3. Place the frozen biscuits in a single layer in the baking dish. Do not thaw them first.
  4. Pour the hot gravy directly over the frozen biscuits.
  5. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until the biscuits are golden and cooked through the center.
