An excellent place to start when deciding between a baby stroller and wagon is by thinking about the places you plan on taking your child. Will it be shops and grocery trips, or do you have more adventurous outings in mind?
If so, then consider which one would better suit your child’s needs: do they prefer being able to ride around while holding onto something tight like armrests? Or maybe sitting back with both hands free is more your baby’s style. Consider your decision on a few points:
Portability Issue
Strollers come in all shapes and sizes but most fold flat. This gives a stroller major points in the portability department. Do consider the folding mechanism though. Some brands have fantastic ones and others are pretty terrible when put under pressure during emergencies.
Wagons, on the other hand, are bulky, making them difficult to transport in smaller cars. They also take up a lot of space when not being used, so most parents agree that you should never rely solely on a wagon for your child’s transportation needs.
Convenience
The most important thing to consider when deciding between a wagon and a stroller is how many children are in your family. If two or three kids fit comfortably inside the wagon, it might be worth investing in one.
A wagon is a little more suited to older youngsters who prefer to move around in and out of their seats. Consider this if your child is likely to jump out of the wagon!
Also remember that wagons are only for sitting because the majority of seats do not recline. While some parents have converted a wagon into a sleeping bassinet, it only works if one kid sleeps and the other walks. If both children want to nod off simultaneously, it’s not feasible.
Safety Features
The market is flooded with various types of kids’ wagons and strollers. But be sure to get one with straps because this will ensure your child’s safety while you’re out in public. The security of your child is a top priority. You should never leave them unattended or unsupervised with any vehicle that could harm them, even if your child has good head control! My 10-month old son was sitting independently unsupported, and he lost control recently, which resulted from him smacking his head against our snack track on the wagon.
Strollers with built-in safety harnesses and belly bars are standard, another point for strollers! They will also generally have overhead canopies to protect them from the sun and belly bars to keep your child in place.
Comfortableness
Wagons are a great way to get your little one out and about on their own two feet. According to the advocates, the advantage of a wagon is that children can self-board them. For others, they may have a zip door or a folding approach. However, I’ve personally never seen any toddler struggle boarding themselves in an ordinary jogging stroller.
My toddler actually has more issues getting into the wagon than our double stroller. Even though it is a little higher and more expensive, my son can just about manage it alone. However, he can only do it because he’s as tall as a four-year-old, so a typical two-year-old wouldn’t be able to get into the wagon alone.
It’s also challenging to keep an eye on youngsters in a wagon. They’re more likely to poke one another, throw things out, or rummage through all of the goodies.
Storage
While children take up relatively little room, their equipment occupies a significant amount of storage space! Diapers, bottles, a change of clothing, toys, wipes, and food all require substantial room.
Wagons are often praised for their storage abilities, but you must consider that most do not have a lot of space inside.
The under-bed storage of a traditional stroller is adequate for holding diapers and snacks. Still, if you need more room, there are available attachment options where bags can be attached to handlebars or carabiners!
Think About Landscapes
What’s the best type of stroller for your family? You’ve got to think about landscape and weather too! If you live in an area with hills, stick with a traditional stroller model. But if not – go ahead and choose based on how much room is needed inside or whether safety amenities are essential (such as cup holders).
A wagon might be more challenging if you must descend a hill or haul yourself up a steep driveway. When it comes to pulling a child uphill, gravity is not on your side! However, if you live in a flat region, you should have no trouble walking with a wagon.
