This is my go-to pepper beef stir-fry that’s easy to prepare for homemade meals when you are really craving Chinese takeout. Serve over a bowl of warm white rice for the best combo!

Ingredients:

  • 300g of beef chunks (boneless, cut into 2mm slices)
  • 5 cloves of garlic (finely diced)
  • 1 shallot (cut into thin slices)
  • ½ bell pepper (cut into 1 cm slices)
  • 4 stalks of spring onion (cut into 1-inch chunks)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • ½ tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 3 tbsp neutral oil

2) Add the cornstarch and all-purpose flour, along with 1 tbsp of water, in a bowl, then stir well.

3) Pour into the beef, then stir well to coat.

4) In a large saucepan, add in 3 tbsp of neutral oil and let it heat over high heat.

5) When the oil is hot enough, add in the coated beef and fry for about 4 minutes on each side. Sieve the beef out from the pan, then remove half of the oil.

6) Toss in the sliced shallots, then fry for about 40 seconds until the edges start to brown.

7) Add in the bell pepper and cook for another minute while stirring. Toss the beef back in, along with the spring onion chunks.

8) Serve with a bowl of white rice for the best combo.

Practical Tips

  • You can also use pork belly for this same recipe; however, please make sure to cook it according to its own cooking times.
  • For a spicier pepper dish, you can add in two thinly sliced Thai chilies.
