Things to Consider Before Buying a Travel System Stroller

There are many types of strollers out there—sit and stand, convertible, and tandem, to name a few. With so many options, how will you know which type is right for you?

This review discusses travel system strollers. Travel system strollers are usually single seats, and they come with an infant car seat that clips into the stroller.

The main advantage of this type of pushchair is the integration it offers. Most other strollers obligate you to use compatible car seats (and often purchase adapters to connect them), whereas the travel system comes with its own fully integrated base.

Parents love the convenience of being able to move their infant directly from car to stroller without having to wake them. They also like that this stroller functions as a standard stroller even after their baby has outgrown the infant car seat.

Who Should Buy a Travel System Stroller?

Families covering long distances in their car are the perfect candidates for this kind of pushchair. If you’ve done your research on the different types of strollers and think this type is right for you, we’ve compiled a list of the best travel system strollers to help you compare some different models.

Travel systems aren’t the right choice for everyone. If you live in an urban area or don’t plan to use your car much, a travel system stroller may not be the best option for you. You may want to consider a convertible stroller instead.

Features & Benefits

The Chicco Bravo Trio Travel System comes with a number of fantastic features (seen in this video) that make it an excellent value for money purchase.

Car Seat

Being able to move the car seat to the stroller easily is an essential feature when it comes to travel system strollers, and Chicco has done a fantastic job here.

Since the travel system comes with a car seat base, you don’t have to worry about not being able to remove it from the car, a common issue with other types of strollers. Parents love how easy it is to click the car seat in and out of its base, and it clicks seamlessly into the stroller as well.

Security when riding in the car is critical, and Chicco has taken steps to ensure a safe ride for your little one. Most notably, the energy absorbing foam used in the car seat is a crucial feature that will keep your baby out of harm’s way in a crash.

RideRight bubble level indicators help you guarantee the proper car seat angle for your baby, another critical factor in car seat safety.

Finally, the Chicco Bravo Trio passes another important test: parents report that the click system makes it possible to move their sleeping baby from car to stroller without them waking up.

Handle Height

We’ve already mentioned the handle, a 3-position push handle that is height adjustable. Reviewers say the padded handle is comfortable to regulate.

Tall parents often complain about stroller handles not extending far enough, which causes them to hit the stroller with their feet, but that doesn’t seem to be an issue here.

Age Recommendation

The Chicco Bravo stroller can be used from 6 months of age until 50 pounds. It is not compatible with a bassinet and therefore not suitable for newborns, which is important to keep in mind as you shop.

Toddler Features

Once your baby can sit up on their own, they can start to enjoy the Bravo’s toddler stroller features. One of these is the 3-position recline that you can adjust by pushing just one button.

Chicco has put padding on the seat, leg rest, and part of the 5-point safety harness to make the stroller more comfortable for your baby.

Brake

The brake can be engaged easily via a foot brake.

One issue is that this model does not use a color system that allows you to see whether or not the brake is set. You have to give the stroller a small shake to make sure it’s locked.

Weight & Wheels

The Chicco Bravo weighs in at a respectable 23 pounds, which most parents find to be manageable when lifting it into the car or carrying it up a flight of stairs.

This model includes plastic, foam-filled wheels equipped with shock-absorbing suspension. The front wheels measure 7” and the back wheels are a little bigger at 9”.

Maneuverability

Many reviewers report that maneuvering the Chicco Bravo can be tricky, especially on uneven terrain. For everyday use, you’ll want to use it on flat, even pavement. If you’re looking for a stroller you can push with one hand, this model falls a bit short.

It does boast an excellent turn radius, and Bravo’s narrow frame shouldn’t give you any problems when going through doors.

Folding

Parents love how easy it is to fold and store this stroller. It collapses and folds with just one hand, a feature any new parent will tell you is handy. Once folded, the stroller doesn’t take up much space.

One area Chicco could improve upon is a mechanism to keep the stroller closed when it’s collapsed. The wheels are designed to face inward when folded, but some users have mentioned that this isn’t always the case.

Storage

The Bravo features a large storage basket accessible from the front or the rear to hold everything your baby needs (up to 10 lbs). It also comes with a Parent Tray that has cup holders and a storage compartment to keep essentials close at hand.

Canopy

The canopy is both removable and adjustable, and parents like that it provides ample coverage for sunny days. However, Chicco should improve the canopy by making the fabric SPF and UV protected, a common complaint among users.

Style

The Chicco Bravo is available in a variety of different color combinations to suit your tastes. Most of them are relatively neutral, but the colors do add a nice-looking touch to this stroller.

We think that for a stroller in its price range, the Chicco Bravo is a stylish, attractive option for fashion-forward parents.

Final Thoughts

We love the Chicco Bravo Trio Travel System for all that it offers. It may not have some of the bells and whistles that other more expensive strollers do, but it is a sound option for parents on a budget.

Its popularity is plain to see on Amazon, where it has over 300 positive reviews. On the whole, parents are quite happy with their purchase.

An Alternative

However, the Bravo does fall short when it comes to maneuverability. We know that some parents will need a travel system that can handle a bit rougher terrain, which is why we recommend the Britax B-Agile stroller.

The Britax B-Agile stroller is a comparable option, both in terms of features and price. We do feel that if maneuverability is a concern for your family, the B-Agile has a definite edge over the Bravo.

This is because the Britax B-Agile stroller has a 3-wheel configuration. Swivel front wheels provide excellent maneuverability and a tight turn radius, and unlike the Bravo, its design allows for one-handed steering.

While not marketed as an all-terrain stroller, it can certainly handle rougher terrain than the Chicco Bravo. Many reviewers like how the suspension provides a super smooth ride that won’t wake your baby when going over bumps.

You can read more about how the B-Agile stroller stands up to another popular option, the Baby Jogger City Mini, in our in-depth review.
